We went to Kelowna on the weekend and on the drive back from there traveling on the connector from Kelowna to Kamloops we saw these magnificent trees covered in snow along part of the road. They were just so pretty I want to share them with you.
My life seems to revolve around holidays & food. The holidays mark the passage of time and the movement of life through another year. When we have lost someone we care about, holidays are difficult. I miss my loved ones but instead of looking at it as a sad day, I like to remember the fun good times we had together when they were with us during these special days.
I live in Canada and Thanksgiving here has come and gone! But I am going to be in California for American Thanksgiving so I am really looking forward to all of the delicious food there will be at our Thanksgiving table!
We have many things to be thankful for not the least of which is the great food! Turkey, stuffing, (maybe this year I should see if we can make a cornbread stuffing instead of a bread stuffing), sweet potatoes… do you like the traditional green bean casserole from years ago? I do! I especially love the crunchy onions on top. And let’s not forget pies… Pecan Pie, Pumpkin Pie, Apple Pie. all delicious. I have never made a Sweet Potato Pie but I would love to try!
What are some of the foods you like to make for your Thanksgiving dinner? Let me know in the comments. I would love to hear from you
Here are some recipes from the blog that are great for Thanksgiving
If you want a simpler vegetable dish then the traditional green bean casserole, here is a way to make delicious Roasted Green Beans So easy to prepare and very quick
A great side dish I absolutely love is a Macaroni Salad. You can make this the day ahead, it is actually delicious the next day. I love this recipe! It uses a bottle of salad dressing which makes this so simple, quick & easy!
Of course Sweet Potatoes are great with turkey. This Sweet Potato in an Orange Sauce Casserole is so delicious I think it may become your fav new way to have sweet potatoes. This is made with orange juice and is sweet and juicy! Perfect to go with a roast of any kind or with a vegan meal too!
Scalloped Potatoes are another go-to recipe of mine. We eat these often. They are non-dairy which is perfect since they are great for any vegan meal as well as meat or fish!
Sometimes a large turkey is well, just too big! Roasting a Turkey Breast is a very good option! Plus I think the price is much better for a turkey breast than a whole turkey! If you need more turkey than one breast, roast two!! This recipe for a Roasted Turkey Breast with Herbs is truly delicious. It goes great with all the yummy side dishes!
Now for dessert!
Here is a different pie than a Pecan Pie. I am in love with this Walnut Whiskey Pie. You can not really notice the whiskey but if you do not want to put whiskey into your pie filling, this pie is delicious without!
A switch from Pumpkin Pie is this delicious Pumpkin Custard! Murray makes this all the time. He likes to use sugar pumpkins for it but canned pumpkin will work just as well!
