Apps I use when grocery shopping & some great recipes using Ground Beef ... & a dessert!
I have made the switch from emailing recipes from my blog website marilyndishes.com to posting recipes here on my newsletter with links to the website! I am excited about this change! Everyone can still go to the website anytime to find recipes, there are over 500 recipes on the site, just click on the link above & you will get right there!
This week I was thinking about the price of groceries here in my city. Everything is getting to be very expensive! The price of butter is so high, fresh veg, beef.. everything actually. I am using the app Flipp to check & compare prices. I do have to get more organized with my grocery shopping since sometimes I look at Flipp when I am in the store! Best practice would be to make my grocery list, look at Flipp before I go shopping then I will know which items are on sale. Flipp works by store but there are grocery stores that price match. I go to one of those stores & get the sale prices I am looking for, that way I do not have to go from store to store which I would not do! When you go on Flipp, you can look though store flyers or do a search for any specific item. When you see an item you want you touch it which creates a circle around that item. That item gets put into a spot called My Clippings on the app. When you get to the cash register tell them you have items that you want to price match. When they ring in the specific item show them that item in My Clippings.
There is an app called Checkout 51 This is a way you can earn cash back on your groceries or gas. Grocery & household items are listed on the app. Item lists change so one always has to look to see what is being featured. To use the app, you have to take a picture of the receipt that the item is on & submit it… it is easy to use. Lately I have not bought anything available on this site but previously I have. To use Checkout 51 keep your grocery receipts until you have checked out what items are on it or have a look before you go grocery shopping & buy the items on the lists.
I substitute fresh spices for dry spices often so there is no waste. I don’t always use a whole thing of ginger. Ginger can be frozen & grated but I find that I forget its in the freezer so I just use powdered ginger, garlic, thyme, oregano etc
One more thing I have been doing for a really long time is with a can of tomato paste! Usually the recipes calls for much less than there is in a can! With the left over tomato paste, I take a piece of foil, drop tablespoons of tomato paste on it, put this into the freezer, laying flat. Then when these are frozen, peel off them the foil & put into a freezer container. Next time you need some tomato paste use these from the freezer! Here is a link to watch my video showing you how I do this!
Now for some recipes!
Here are a few of my favourite Ground Beef recipes. Simple ingredients for all of them, nothing that is difficult to find in a grocery store!
And do we want dessert? Yes, Yes we do!
When I buy a big bag of apples & they start to get soft, this is a perfect way to use them
