Do you keep things that you don't use often? I do!!
My daughter & her colleague have a podcast called
It is so interesting & funny when they discuss the different things that they keep but don’t always use. They have guests that are always interesting too! When I listen to the podcast I always think about 2 drawers in particular in my kitchen. There are so many odds & sods in those drawers! Little gadjets that I have picked up or have been given. Every once in a while I use them but the drawers are very messy & it’s tough to find the things I have. Also, I forget all the things in there! But… I just might need something in there so can’t bring myself to get rid of those things! Give this podcast a listen! I know you will enjoy it!
There is a room on our main floor that along one wall we built an Ikea system with shelves & sliding doors where I keep all kinds of things! I have baking pans, icing equipment, large coffee urns & drink dispensers. Large bowls, vases, serving dishes large & small, a space for gifts that I pick up & ‘save’ to give away ‘sometime’. I have extra napkins, placemats.. an area for outdoor cutlery, candles etc. Last time Jacki ( my daughter) was here she helped me go through these cupboards & donate things that I had not been using. I do use everything that is left at some point. We used to host many people & always needed a lot of serving dishes, I hope we get back to that soon!
Here is a picture. (I love this storage unit)
Let me know in the comments if you listen to the Podcast Why Did I Keep This? and what you keep that you don’t use very often or how you store all the small things in the kitchen ‘junk’ drawers. (Not that anything is actually junk in my kitchen or yours)
On The Blog This Week
Vegetarian Chilli I made this recipe with kidney beans, black beans & corn. If I don’t have black beans I add a can of lentils. You can adjust the ingredients to your taste as long as you keep the quantities the same
BBQ Korean Chicken Wings The wings are marinaded, some of the marinade is reserved in the fridge before adding the chicken wings to it then after the wings are cooked they are tossed in this delicious sauce. You can bake your wings if you are not BBQing now in winter!
Spicy Baked Chicken Wings the name says it all!
Vegetarian Layered Nacho Bake You can make this with veggie ground round or any meat substitute or not! It is like a lasagne.. layers of nacho chips, cheese etc.
Chicken Satay with Peanut Sauce This recipe makes a delicious appetizer or dinner! The Peanut Sauce is really delish!
Chicken Satay with Peanut Sauce
Mango Tequila Guacamole I am sure you can tell by the name of this that it is amazing! just so so good! You will want to eat it with a spoon, not only a chip!
Mini Glazed HotDogs From one of my ‘go to’ cookbooks little cocktail hotdogs are cooked in a mixture of grape jelly & chilli sauce… these are so good & a real classic
the pictue is not great! I had overcooked the hot dogs a bit & the sauce got thick but they were still really good!
Puppy Chow This recipe is from Bon Appétit. I hosted a bridal shower years ago & served this as the snack on tables around the room. Everyone just loved this. Chex Cereal is coated with chocolate, peanut butter & butter, then tossed in icing sugar. M & M’s, pretzels & peanuts are added. Addictive!
That’s all for this week!
