Some how Father's Day snuck up on me! What do you do for Father’s day? We usually BBQ something that Murray enjoys but this year we have plans for the evening so I think it will be brunch! Funny, I always equate brunch with Mother’s Day & BBQ for Father’s Day. I am such a creature of habit.
My dad passed away when I was 13. That is over 50 years ago. I mention this not so that anyone will feel sorry this happened but just to remember him publicly I think. He was 50 years old. My memories of him are not dim, I can still visualize him anytime I try. Being so young, I do not think I realized the implications of losing my dad at that time. Throughout my life of course, every time there is a special life event, I think about how he would have enjoyed them… especially my kids & grandkids. But, I do not let his absence define me. I’m pretty sure I may have been a different person with a father in my life but I am who I am! I think losing a parent so young, at least for me, made me not really trust the certainty of life that maybe other people might feel. I know a bad thing can happen any minute. Luckily I don’t think about it all the time & Murray has taught me not to look at life like that! PHEW! I have had a number of strong male figures to help me navigate my life, not least of which was my wonderful brother-in-law. I was 11 when he married my sister so after my dad passed away he became my ‘dad/brother’ & he walked me down the aisle at our wedding. 👰🏻♀️ I was fortunate to have had a wonderful step-dad. I was already in my 20’s when my mom remarried but I was grateful she did. A few years later I married Murray & my father-in-law was now in my life. So, all in all I have had some great ‘Father’s’ around me.
I hope all the Dad’s out there enjoy the day in whatever way they chose! Not least eating some delish food!
Here is a link to the post I just put up on the blog with a collection of some of Murray’s fav recipes ( there are many more since he has eaten some of the over 800 recipes on the blog & has never not liked any of them!)
This Week On The Blog
This is a new recipe & it is DELISH! Brownies with a Biscoff Spread Swirl.
The Biscoff Spread filling is layered in-between brownie batter then swirled through. The flavour is amazing!
It is time to make some Homemade Hot Fudge Sauce. The recipe is from Smitten Kitchen. So delicious I love to eat it right out of the jar. Keep it in your fridge so you have it ready for everything! Not just ice cream, did some cookies in it, pour it over strawberries, any cake… it is soooo good
Another New recipe this week! Lemonade Pie. I saw this on TikTok so I looked up a recipe & there are so many. This is the simplest one. I don’t know who to give credit to for the recipe as I do not know the origin. 3 ingredients, condensed milk, defrosted lemonade concentrate & cool whip get mixed together & put into a graham wafer crust. You can buy the crust or make it! I made it so it could fit into a deep dish pie pan. The filling is enough for 2 bought shells! Perfect to make & keep in the freezer to pull out when you need a delis dessert. You can eat this frozen or cold from the fridge. You can top it with some whipped cream if you want!
Well, that’s all for this week! Let me know if you like the new recipes!
Omg. Brownies look so good! Think I’m stealing that hot fudge recipe and will make it eventually.
