There are just so many delicious things to eat for Chanukah & Christmas!
Latkes…Jelly Doughnuts, Chocolate Coins, Christmas & Chanukah Cookies, Christmas Cake, Christmas Pudding! All so good!
Wouldn’t it be a great idea if those that celebrate Chanukah give our treats to those who celebrate Christmas and vice versa? Personally I would love it! I love Christmas Cookies & Christmas Cake.
There are just so many ways to eat Latkes! Some like them made with shredded potatoes & some with pureed potatoes. I grew up with pureed potato latkes & so did Murray. I actually like both ways so I make Latkes a couple times during Chanukah so we can have both! Oh, can’t forget about Sweet Potato Latkes too! And let’s not forget to discuss the different toppings. At my house we always sprinkled sugar on them & before you think that is gross, trust me it's delish! Then there is the pan juices from any roast, chicken, turkey or beef spooned on top of the latkes, this is amazing! Applesauce, Sour Cream, Applesauce & Sour Cream… all good. Latkes are a delicious base for fried eggs, shredded pastrami or corned beef with a bit of sauerkraut & mustard on top! Creme fraiche & lox (smoked salmon) A Loaded Potato latke is like a Loaded Potato Skin without the bacon. The recipe is below. And, I just saw a post with someone using the latkes like bread & making a grilled cheese latke sandwich!! People are just so creative! I have posted 3 Latke recipes below, one of which uses frozen shredded potatoes!
I have a wonderful family recipe for Peroghy on my blog that my niece let me post a few years ago. They are amazing & I will post the recipe here. Also, a great Shortbread Cookie recipe good for everyone just cut them into any shape you like! Peppermint Bark is perfect for this time of year! Can’t forget a big bowl of Puppy Chow for everyone to enjoy!
Check out some recipes on the blog for appetizers! Antipasto, a Cheeseball and many more.
