I love hydrangeas .. this one is from Murray’s parents yard
Our lives are punctuated with holidays! The next one is Mother’s Day. I know it is about a week and half away but I have been thinking about Mother’s Day & thought I should just do this now!
Not to get too philosophical but, Mother’s Day brings up so many emotions for people, doesn’t it? You all know how Mother’s Day is for you so I won’t really get into the emotion of it except my own experience! My mom passed away in 2011. I always think of her & miss her everyday. On Mother’s Day I remember all the Mother’s Day brunches we had together with the whole family. Sometimes we went out to eat & other times we cooked. Precious memories with my Mom. We used to live near Murray’s parents and spent Mothers Day with my wonderful Mother-In-Law those years. I miss having those special times with her as we did not really see her on Mother’s Day once we moved apart from each other. I think back to my own family & how special my kids make Mother’s Day for me! When they were small all of the handmade gifts & cards they made at school were so sweet. As the years past the gifts changed… they stopped making cards & bought them! We have grandchildren now who make the cards! The gifts are not important, the cards are always meaningful & lovely. But, the most important thing about Mother’s Day is time spent together or visits over Zoom!!! I am so grateful for Zoom & FaceTime & all the other video apps so we can often see our family that do not live with us.
There was always the question about what to buy the Mom’s in our lives. Do we get them kitchen things? Personal things? So many options & of course over the years the gifts changed. I always tried to focus on what kinds of things they were doing that year & matched a gift as best I could. As they got older & did less, the gifts became more sedate in nature… like new nighties! But, the Mom’s were always generous in their love & thanked us for whatever gift we gave them. 💕 I am going to post some links to great kitchen tools that I use on the blog soon so if that is what you are thinking about, you might want to have a look
I hope you all have a Mother’s Day that is meaningful for you… that you enjoy the day anyway you want!
And, let’s not forget about having some delicious food! I really like brunch for Mother’s Day! ( & BBQ for Father’s Day)
There are many recipes on the blog that I love for brunches & some previous posts with several recipes in them. Here are links to a two of those blog posts.
Next week I will post some ideas for desserts for Mother’s Day!
This Week On The Blog
(Only 2 new posts in the last week!)
I have always loved Cottage Cheese. I like to eat it with fruit. I like to eat it with cut up cucumbers & radishes. I like to eat it plain with salt & pepper & I can not forget I love eating it on some soft cooked cornmeal. There is a resurgence of Cottage Cheese on TikTok & other social media. One of the big things now is Cottage Cheese ‘ice cream’. I have not tried this but if you are interested you could look up a recipe. I think they just take a container of cottage cheese, add some honey & fruit. Blend it up in a blender, put it into a container & pop into the freezer. If you try it let me know how it is!
One of my fav recipes using cottage cheese are these Cottage Cheese Muffins. Serve them warm with some yogurt or sour cream & fruit. They are really delicious.
Since I only have 2 new posts on the blog here is another delish recipe using cottage cheese, Cottage Cheese Noodle Kugel I was talking to someone the other day when I was thinking about dinner & was going to make pasta.. well this noodle kugel is pasta!! So perfect for dinner 😀
Here is the second recipe I posted this week. it is such a good idea to have grain salads in the fridge. Easy to have for lunch or as a side dish for dinner. I usually only keep left-overs in the fridge for 3-4 days. One of the grain salads I really like is this Couscous & Chickpea Salad. The recipe makes a lot so if there is only a couple people that are going to eat it you might want to make half a recipe.
Here is an older post of another delish grain salad. Quinoa Broccoli Chickpea Salad This one is made with quinoa & broccoli & chickpeas. If you do not like quinoa you can use any grain you like! I added cut up dates to this salad & it was amazing! The dates add just the perfect amount of sweetness. ( both of these salads look similar but the flavours of each are very different )
Here is a picture of Murray enjoying this salad !!

That’s all for this week !
I love your comments so please leave one!
How nice to see your husband! So many times we don't see the support and encouragement that help make your work possible. I know that the reason I do what I do is my family. He must be so proud of you!
