Murray and I were visiting our kids in LA last week, well actually I am still here! The weather has been so rainy & cool. Not what anyone would expect when we think of Los Angeles! I always think that the weather should be warm & sunny in Southern California. We were here in November and eating outside was great! Sometimes a bit cool but everywhere we went the restaurants had heaters. The staff would move the heaters around so that we were warm which was terrific.

We only had dinner outside at a restaurant once this trip & have ordered in a few times. We went to a place called Jeffs Gourmet Sausage Factory. This is a kosher restaurant. They only have a take out window now, there is a small space for inside dining but it is not open. When we were there the window constantly had people placing orders & picking up food. We each had a burger which was delicious. Murray had a burger with pastrami on it & mine had an onion ring. The Pastrami Burger & The Western Burger. Our kids wanted to have these delish burgers too so we ordered in one night from this place. Second time around…just as good.

We ordered in one night from a wonderful sushi restaurant is called Sugarfish Sushi. The fish is so fresh it just melts in your mouth. Murray just loves sushi so this made him very happy!

Pasta night was from Jon & Vinny’s We ordered the Caesar Salad that had toasted panko crumbs like the recipe on my blog! Caesar Salad with Toasted Panko Crumbs. We also ordered the Pesto Pasta, Spicy Fusilli, Spicy Broccolini, Cacio e Pepe & a Margherita Pizza! So good, I highly recommend going there if you are every in LA.

Lastly we had tacos from Homestate Tacos We had three different tacos, the Brisket, the Chicken & the Potato. We had Ranch Salad, Lil’ Queso & chips, Lil’ Quacamole. We had lots of leftovers! The tacos were soft shell & I would say the vest I have ever had!

Lots of eating out. Now we are cooking. Tonight we are making the recipe from last weeks newsletter Hummus with Spiced Beef

I will let you know in next weeks newsletter if we ate out at any great places while I am still here.

This Week On The Blog

Apple Caramel Cake The recipe is from Robin Hood Flour. I had ripped the recipe out of one of my magazines so many years ago & put it into my recipe binder! This cake is very tender from the apples & really satisfying!

Apple Caramel Cake

Chicken With Coconut Milk I adapted a recipe changing some of the ingredients. The recipe called for lemon grass stalks which I have never used so I subbed in some Lemon Grass Paste which was delish!

Chicken with Coconut Milk

In honour of Pi Day, which was march 14/23, I compiled a post with a few Pie recipes. All of them are delicious

Tomorrow is Pi Day…so let’s eat some Pie!

That’s all for this week! Thanks for reading!
