The Art of the Brownie
Brownies are not difficult to make but there are so many choices. You can use a recipe & make a few personal tweaks like adding nuts or chocolate chips, which turn making a brownie into an art!
There are just so many recipes for Brownies! Do we want Fudgy Brownies? Cakey Brownies? Iced? Blondie Brownies? (But are those even brownies?) Peanut Butter in a Brownie? White Chocolate chips added? You decide!
My husband Murray does not like brownies so I rarely make them now that it is just the two of us at home. But, this past week I really wanted some so I pulled out an old booklet from Hershey’s called the Brownie Sampler from 1988! 9 different recipes for Brownies in there!!!! That’s exhausting HAHA There is a fantastic recipe for Creamy Brownie Frosting which is my favourite frosting recipe,
I think I should try all of the recipes in this booklet. I decided to make the HERSHEY’S PREMIUM, DOUBLE CHOCOLATE BROWNIES. This recipe is not on the blog yet so you are the first to see it! You can make this recipe by hand! No mixer needed
Here is the recipe!
3/4 cup Cocoa
1/2 tsp baking soda
2/3 c butter, melted Divide the butter in half. You will use 1/3 of a cup in the cocoa & then you add the remaining 1/3 cup later
1/2 cup boiling water
2 cups sugar ( this recipe makes a large pan of brownies so it seems like alot of sugar but it works out! )
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/3 c flour
1/2 cup chopped nuts which is optional. I used walnuts
1 3/4 cup chocolate chips
Preheat your oven to 350f. Grease a 9x13 baking pan
In a large bowl, mix the cocoa and the baking soda together. Add 1/3 cup melted butter & mix until smooth. Add the boiling water & stir until the mixture gets thicker. Stir in the sugar, beaten eggs & remaining 1/3 cup of melted butter. Add the vanilla & mix well. Now mix in the flour until no more flour is visible. Next, add the nuts & chocolate chips & mix well. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes until the brownie has pulled away from the sides of the pan. Let cool before cutting ( if you can!!)
These are delicious with some ice cream scooped on top!
